The morning sun filtered through the windows of their cottage, painting the stone floor in long, lazy strokes of amber and gold.
Beside the crackling hearth, the heavy scent of tea sweetened with honey mingled with the crisp spring air.

Kael watched Seranni over the rim of his mug, his coal-black eyes tracking the steam curling up toward Seranni’s face.
Even with the dark magic of his cursed form now stabilized, the lingering heat in his blood and the clawed tips of his fingers served as reminders of his beastly half.
Yet, under her gaze, he felt entirely, beautifully human.
Seranni shifted, her fingers tracing the smooth, cool surface of the wooden table between them.
“You’re staring,” she murmured, a soft, teasing smile playing on her lips as she looked up.
“I am marveling,” Kael corrected, his voice a low, gravelly rumble that vibrated through the small room.
He reached across the table, his scarred hand turning palm-up in an unspoken invitation.
Without hesitation, Seranni slid her smaller, delicate hand into his.
The contrast was stark—soft skin against hard, scarred flesh tipped with dangerous claws—but the warmth that flared between them was instantaneous.
It was a gentle, comforting burn that settled deep in his chest.
He pulled her gently toward him, guiding her to sit upon his lap.
Her fingers threaded through his dark hair, her breath warm against his neck.
“I know who you truly are, Kael,” she whispered, leaning down to press her lips to his jaw. “You don’t have to hide anymore.”
“I am not hiding,” he murmured, his arms wrapping around her waist, pulling her flush against his chest. “I have found exactly where I belong.”
